Proof ‘proves nothing’

IRREFUTABLE evidence of something happening is being refuted by people who argue that it is not happening.

The thing that is happening and the cause of the thing happening is backed up by proof, and that proof is becoming greater and greater by the day.

But an idiot instead said: “This does not count as proof that this thing is happening.

“This thing can’t be happening, not because I myself have proof that it is not happening, but because the thing that is being proved to happen is a bad thing.

“I grew up being told that only good things happened, and the people I choose to talk to all agree that these good things are the only things that ever happen.

“So how can it be possible that there are now bad things happening? It must be because the people who are telling us that there are bad things happening are bad people with bad intentions.

“These are bad people, telling us bad things. No amount of proof is going to convince me that something bad is happening, because I’d rather listen to the good people who say that the good things are happening.

“I like good things.”

The strength of the idiot’s assertion that the bad thing isn’t happening has grown at an almost identical rate to the strength of the proof that the bad thing is happening.

One of the people helping to gather the proof that shows bad things are happening said: “I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news.

“Bad things are happening, and they’re getting worse. The cause of these bad things is us. It’s you and me. We are to blame for the bad stuff.

“I wish I had some better news for you, and that I could raise your hopes a little. I wish I had proof that the bad things were gradually going away, and that there were good times ahead. I would rather find proof of this. I would rather give you good news. Honestly, I like good things happening. But, unfortunately, in this case, the proof that I’ve found is not good. It’s bad. It’s really, really bad. And that’s just the way it is.

“So get used to it.”
